Plans are being made by the Three Forks Area Historical Society to celebrate the museum’s 40th anniversary. The museum first opened at 202 S. Main Street in July of 1982 in the old Three Valley’s State Bank building, one of the oldest buildings in Three Forks. The “Anniversary Celebration” will also include the annual Historical Society’s Ice Cream Social event. Cake and ice cream will be served outdoors at the museum’s back yard. Forty years ago this month, the doors of the Headwaters Heritage Museum were first opened for visitors at its new location at 202 South Main Street. It was July of 1982. It must have been an exciting moment for those who were involved in obtaining the building. Previously, they had just a few exhibits in two rooms of the Sacajawea Hotel. A meeting of the 2021 All-School Reunion Committee took place Tuesday, July 6, at the Methodist Church Annex. With only a little more than a week before the event, all plans were discussed in detail. A registration desk will be set up on the lawn of the John Q. Adams Railroad Park (sometimes known as Milwaukee Park) between the depot and the caboose. Some of the photos on the “Alumni Wall” in the Gilmore Room of the Headwaters Heritage Museum have faded over the years, and a project is now underway to restore them. The photos were copied from the museum’s collection of annuals (or yearbooks). The Headwaters Heritage Museum opened June 15 and will remain open until September 15. The hours are 9 am to 5 pm daily, except Sunday, 11 am to 3 pm. Tuesday and Wednesday evenings have been discontinued. Admission is free. Due to Covid-19, the museum is sanitized after visitations and volunteers either wear masks or maintain social distancing from the visitors.
