The Three Forks Volunteer Fire Department will be well represented at the 32nd annual LLS Firefighter Stairclimb scheduled for Sunday, March 12, at the Columbia Center in downtown Seattle. To raise money in support of the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society, Captain Charles Eastty, Captain Cheryl Carrasco, and Firefighter Chase Moore will ascend to the top of the fourth tallest skyscraper west of the Mississippi River in full turnout gear weighing over 60 pounds. The Three Forks Rural Fire Department and City Council conducted their annual joint Special Meeting last week. In a report on the interlocal agreement between the two entities, Fire Chief Keith Aune reported they currently sitting at 19 volunteers. The current agreement has a limit of 28 firefighters. Aune said in 2022, they responded to 186 calls, a lower number than in 2021. He added the calls were mainly out of town. “We were down, but that’s a good thing,” he said. A late October winter storm brought widespread precipitation to many SNOTEL stations in Montana. That snow was within one to two weeks of the typical snowpack onset and earlier than the fall of 2021, which was nearly a month late in some locations due to an unseasonably warm and dry fall. We had a successful meet over the weekend in Loyola, both the Speech and Drama teams won 2nd in sweeps. In Speech, Loyola is still the team to beat as we look to Divisionals and State coming up. We have some strong contenders in individual events going into Divisionals at Columbus. Our veteran Public Forum Debate team of Noah Murphy and Arlo Smith are going into this next tournament with high hopes of winning the event. There is an infamous scene from the television show "Breaking Bad" where the main character tosses a pizza on the roof of his home in a fit of rage. As bizarre as that may sound, it seemed completely normal to me. While it wasn't a pizza, I had once done something similar, which seemed pretty appropriate at the time. I am ten years older than my sister Megan, and I often had to watch her during the summer months. The Three Forks High School Wrestling team had four wrestlers place at two large tournaments last week. Brayden Linville finished fifth (106), and Cole Rogers was seventh (113) at the prestigious Rockwell Rumble in Herriman, Utah. The recently constructed rest area in south Broadwater County has been a hot topic as of late, and the conversation continued during the Jan. 9 county commissioners meeting. The Three Forks High School Girls' Basketball team picked up a huge road win last week with a 46-44 victory on January 10 against Class A East Helena. "It was a pretty great night for the Lady Wolves. That was a huge win. The East Helena girls have been playing together for several years now, and it was almost the same team we saw last year," said Head Coach Lacy Noble. Advocates for senior services, assisted living facilities and nursing homes packed a hearing room in the state Capitol Thursday, imploring lawmakers to increase Medicaid payment rates or else watch the already wounded industry buckle in coming months and years. The Legislature’s joint committee on redistricting will hold public testimony and adopt a resolution this week to provide feedback on how Montana establishes its new legislative districts, the chair of the committee said during its first meeting on January 12.
