    Jack H. Smith, Three Forks Voice|Mar 20, 2019

The Three Forks School Board of Trustees voted Tuesday to approve a resolution to set a May 7 operational mill fund levy for both the elementary and high school districts. Both districts are seeking $55,000 for their general funds. The money would be used to add a third-grade teacher in the elementary district and a math/science teacher in the high school district. The 5.4 mills in the elementary district would have an impact of $7.36 per year for a $100,000 home and $14.72 for a 200,000 home. The 5.5 mills in the high school district would...

A prolific alien organism is closing in on Montana's ecosystem and could have dire consequences for food production, outdoor recreation and the economy if it crosses the state's borders. Aquatic invasive species have widely infected the Midwest and are continuing to spread. Montana Fish, Wildlife and Parks and state lawmakers are racing to protect the state from all invasive species, but aquatic species like quagga and zebra mussels in particular. • OUR VIEW: Future bright for Three Forks Wrestling

    Jack H. Smith, Editor|Mar 20, 2019

The future looks extremely bright for Three Forks wrestling. The decision by the school board several years ago to add wrestling as a sport led to a team returning to the high school for the first time in several decades. This was a monumental decision for the future of wrestling in Three Forks and over the past two years they have seen their numbers slowly grow and have had two competitors at the state tournament, and this year hosted their first home event in 35 years. The program will continue to grow with a large group of middle school...

  • Column: Sweet, Sweet Karma

    Jack H. Smith, Editor|Mar 20, 2019

I'm by no means a spiritual guru who spends hours a day cross legged on the floor mediating, but I'm a firm believer in karma. What goes around often does come around. While I certainly have my moments, I try to do the best I can and treat people the way I would like to be treated. It's a simple mantra but it usually works out for the best. Despite my best intentions, I sometimes mess up and usually get a swift kick in the butt from my good friend karma. Last week was a perfect example of this. While a lot of people think I'm at the office at t...

  • Medicaid expansion a hot topic during last week's session

Shaylee Ragar and Tim Pierce, UM Legislative News Service University of Montana School of Journalism|Mar 20, 2019

People filled the Montana Capitol Saturday to testify during an all-day hearing on two competing bills that would extend Medicaid expansion, some of them arguing to keep the program as is, some arguing for more requirements for enrollees and others arguing against the program completely. Republican Rep. Ed Buttrey of Great Falls and Democratic Rep. Mary Caferro of Helena are carrying competing Medicaid expansion bills, which were heard back-to-back Saturday. With nearly 100,000 Montanans...

  • The Senior Center

    Jean Farnam|Mar 20, 2019

The Senior Center has kept plugging along. We missed a couple of days for deep snow, but it looks like we’re over the worst of it now. When there are enough players, we have Bingo on Thursdays at 12:30. There have been enough players every Saturday at 2:00, and Bingo is played then. Anyone who wishes to come play with us either time is welcome. Cards are $1 each and the money is paid out to the winnners. Wednesday Pinochle sometimes has only 6 players and, when that happens, we play a few games of 6-handed double-deck Pinochle, but not for t...
