Three Forks Middle School was recently selected to receive the 2021 national first Place Middle School Student Body Program Award. The award was sponsored by the Campaign for Tobacco-Free Kids (CTFK) and Family, Career and Community Leaders of America (FCCLA). During the pandemic in the spring and our return to school in the fall we realized many students were struggling with depression and anxiety as the year wore on everyone seemed to be arguing about politics and the unrest in our country.... In celebration of National Wildflower Week, Lewis & Clark Caverns State Park will be hosting a $4 guided wildflower hike on May 8th. As the weather continues to warm and things begin to look a bit greener, early flowers will begin to emerge. Whenever I make a seven-hour trip to my hometown, one of my first stops is at Grub's Drive-In for a double shamrock burger. It is four patties of wonderful. The only thing I have found similar to a shamrock is a 4x4 at In-N-Out burger. The first time I tried In-N-Out in Los Angeles, it took me back to my childhood and is usually the first stop if I am in Salt Lake City, Southern Utah, or head to Las Vegas for a weekend. Four Broadwater County 4-H members recently received scholarships recognizing them for an outstanding 4-H career. The purpose of the Broadwater County 4-H Leadership Scholarship is to help 4-H youth further their education. It is awarded to active 4-H members who have exhibited strong leadership skills and successfully completed at least two 4-H projects each year of high school. This year, the recipients of the $700 scholarship were Kadyn Braaten, Kinzee Howey, Allyson Kamps and Wade Leachman.... Full story
Three Forks wrestler Cole Rogers recently earned All-American status at a prestigious national tournament. A freshman at Three Forks High School, Rogers finished in sixth place at April’s UWW Cadet, U15 & Future Nationals tournament in Wisconsin Dells, WI. After losing his first match to the eventual champion, Rogers battled his way back to finish in sixth place in the 24-man bracket. So far, we have had a pretty decent season. A ton of kids came out for golf (42) so that is amazing. It has been a little challenging with so many golfers and some bad weather getting kids to play in tournaments, but we are doing our best. This last week our varsity kids participated in the Manhattan Christian invitational at Cottonwood hills in Bozeman, the girls took second place with 4 of the girls placing in the top 20. HELENA, Mont. – The Office of the Governor last week released the 2021 Montana Water and Supply Drought Outlook Report. According to data in the report, 42 percent of the state is classified as abnormally dry, with another 18 percent of the state in severe to extreme drought conditions. Chuck Wambeke was born in Billings, attended grade school in Butte and graduated high school at Billings Central in 1980. Montana will gain a second representative in the U.S. House as seats are reapportioned according to population counts from the 2020 census, the U.S. Census Bureau said last week. HELENA, Mont. – A new web application from the Montana Department of Natural Resources and Conservation (DNRC) puts real-time streamflow data at the fingertips of boaters, anglers, water management professionals, and the general public. The web application, called StAGE, dynamically displays surface water data collected from 29 DNRC stream gages across the state. Users can access river stage, discharge, and water temperatures. After having the event canceled in 2020 due to the Covid-19 pandemic, Rockin' the Rivers is set to return in 2021. According to RTR office manager Jodie Petitt, the 2021 festival is scheduled to take place August 12 to 14 at the Bridge near Three Forks.
