  • Fish mortality observed in lower Madison River

    Fisheries biologists with Montana Fish, Wildlife & Parks are monitoring an area of the Madison River where a number of dead fish have been observed. A cause of the mortalities has not yet been determined. Biologists have collected many samples from dead and dying fish and submitted them for testing. The dead fish were first reported to FWP on May 18 by anglers floating in Beartrap Canyon. FWP staff immediately went to the area and found several dead mountain whitefish.   • Seat Open on School Board

    There is a vacancy of the Three Forks School Board. At last week’s monthly meeting, the board voted unanimously to accept the resignation of Stephene Kamerman. She was first elected to the position in May of 2019. The board also approved to declare the vacancy.     With an increasing need for donations at the Headwaters Area Food Bank in Three Forks, local youth have once again stepped up for the betterment of the community. Over the past two months, the Food Bank located at 216 1st Ave. West has received a 1,627-pound donation from Manhattan area students, over 900 pounds from students at the Manhattan Christian School, another from the Willow Creek Wranglers 4-H Club.     The Three Forks High School track and field team will conclude their 2021 season with 11 athletes competing at the Class B State Meet scheduled for May 27 to 29 in Laurel.     Following a state-clinching victory at the recent Divisional Tournament, Three Forks High School senior tennis player Kinzee Howey said she and doubles partner Katie Hayder had tears right away following the match.     The Three Forks High School girls golf team impressively concluded the 2021 season, finishing in sixth place at last week’s Class B State Golf Tournament in Billings. “The Lady Wolves had a very commendable appearance in the State tournament.     Montana’s unemployment rate declined from 3.8% in March to 3.7% in April. The unemployment rate for the U.S. was 6.1% for the month. “Montana’s economic recovery depends on getting Montanans back to work into good-paying jobs, allowing our businesses to fill open jobs and meet their growing customer demand,” Gov.
