  • Officials discuss Old Town Road Bridges

    On June 6, Gallatin County announced the closure of one of the bridges on Old Town Road. Last week, the Gallatin County Commission voted at their regular meeting to approve emergency orders to extend the closure. One day later, the commission hosted a meeting with area legislators to discuss the closure and replacement plans for both bridges on the road.   • Softball team hits home run with school board

    The Three Forks School Board unanimously approved the addition of a high school girls' softball team for the 2022 fall season at its June 21 meeting, after the recreational softball team approached the board with their request in May. The Montana High School Association board must consider the proposed change before the high school can officially offer it to students.   • Historical Society Meeting set for June 7

    The Three Forks Area Historical Society is having their monthly meeting for on July 7th, at 7:00 p.m. It will be in the Methodist Annex. Items on the agenda include discussion of the Mystery Dinner Theater “Death on the Midnight Train”, planning the Rodeo Parade float and also planning the commemoration of the Headwaters Heritage Museum’s 40th anniversary.     It is a little bit disheartening I did not have a cat as a pet until I was in my 30s. I was always told I was allergic growing up, and I could never spend time with any cats. I had no idea the joy I was missing. While living in Washington state, I was able to rescue a kitty, which changed my life. I now enjoy all the craziness that goes with cats daily, and I love it.   • Our View: Volunteers huge for Rodeo Dayz

    The Three Forks community will come together in a little over two weeks for the annual Rodeo Dayz Celebration. It will be an excellent time for both area residents and visitors who attend the rodeo and various other events that take place over the weekend. Any larger event in a smaller community could not happen without the many volunteers who step up to the plate to take on a multitude of tasks to help things run smoothly.     The largest online platform for finding and booking fishing trips nationally has listed Three Forks as one of the ten best summer fishing destinations in the US. Three Forks is included on the 2022 list from FishingBooker with Indian River County (FL), Hilton Head Island (SC), Pint Pleasant Beach (NJ), Rockland (ME), Grapevine (TX), Wichita (KS), Fish Lake (UT), Westport (WA), and Haleiwa (HI).   • Marijuana Excise Tax Ballot Measure back on Gallatin County ballot

    The results of this month's Marijuana Excise Taxes vote in Gallatin County were not certified and will be back on the ballot in November. The Gallatin County Commissioners voted Monday not to accept the results due to an administrative error dealing with state law regarding a notice of election needing to be posted 45 days before the vote and 30 days before the election.     Raymond Jay Townsend, age 73, a resident of Lisle, IL for 33 years, passed away unexpectedly December 6, 2021. He was born May 9, 1948 in Whitehall, Montana to Inez and Earl Townsend of Trident. The family moved to Three Forks, Montana where Ray attended high school and graduated in 1966. After graduation he started working for the Milwaukee Railroad and was called to service by the US military. He served in the Army for three years in Fort Bliss Texas and South Korea.   • DEQ to Host Public Meeting on Draft Gallatin River Assessment

    The Montana Department of Environmental Quality (DEQ) has completed a draft water quality assessment for a segment of the Gallatin River.     After a storied track and field career at Three Forks High School, recent graduate Jasmyn Murphy will continue in the sport at the collegiate level. The 2021 Class B Long Jump State Champion, Murphy signed a letter of intent last Friday to compete at the University of Providence in Great Falls.     STAFF REPORT Three Forks wrestlers shined at last week's Western States Championships and Turf War Duals in Farmington, UT. In his first action back since a knee injury kept him out of the high school season, Levi Wagner excelled at the prestigious meeting finishing in first place in the Greco Junior 132-pound division.   • Flooding Creates Potential Human Health and Recreational Risks in Rivers Across Montana

  • Permanent repairs, upgrades scheduled for Hebgen Dam gate

    Permanent repairs and upgrades to the release gate at Hebgen Dam will begin later this summer and are expected to be complete by mid-September. A stem coupling on the release gate failed on Nov. 30, 2021, causing the gate to partially close. An investigation, called a Root Cause Analysis, was completed.
