  • City Council votes to Cancel Mayoral Election

    The Three Forks City Council voted last week to approve a resolution to cancel the November contests for Mayor and an unexpired Council Seat. With the approval of the resolution, Randy Johnston will become the new Mayor in January with a term through 2025. Current Councilmember Nancy Todd will remain in her seat in a term that expires on December 31, 2023. An election for three four-year terms on the Council will remain on the ballot.     In November, Gallatin County voters will decide on a $29 million bond that, if approved, would replace the current Law and Justice Center in Bozeman. Gallatin County Commissioner Zach Brown discussed the bond at last week's Three Forks Chamber of Commerce meeting.     For the second straight week, the Three Forks High School Cross Country team had a strong showing at a huge meet featuring many top teams from all classes in the Treasure State. Competing at the Mountain West Invite in Missoula that had 56 boys' teams and 44 girls' teams, the Wolves had ten student-athletes set personal records.     During September, numerous Three Forks residents have reported bear activity within City limits as well as outside of town. A recent release from Montana Fish, Wildlife & Parks reminded residents to use bear-resistant garbage containers or keep garbage containers indoors until the day of collection to avoid conflicts with bears.     The annual application period is open for the Wildlife Habitat Improvement Program (WHIP), a grant funding program administered by Montana Fish, Wildlife & Parks.
