  • Our View: Please slow it down

    Jack H. Smith, Three Forks Voice|Oct 28, 2020

Without trying to sound too much like Lord Eddard Stark on "Game of Thrones", winter is coming in southwest Montana and its pending arrival has already brought the return of nasty roads to the Treasure State. Last weekend morning served as a preview of what is to come as many parts of Interstate 90 and local highways turned into in icy and snowy mess, especially over bridges. And it is still October. This is always the time of year that it is important to remember to slow down and drive...

  • Column: Vacation Friends

    Jack H. Smith, Three Forks Voice|Oct 28, 2020

I by no means have a photographic memory but do believe I can vividly remember a lot of things, especially small moments that probably should have no business taking up space in my brain. I am also the same guy that knows there is a council meeting I need to record at 7 p.m. and will realize at 9:15 that I completely blanked it. From the FWP|Oct 28, 2020

By the time Mark Bromley came to a stop, his strength had been almost entirely absorbed by the cold current pulling him downstream. His waders were full of water. Fly fishing line was twisted and tangled around his body, and breathing was painful. All he could do was hold on to the root of an overhanging shrub while keeping his eyes, nose and mouth out of the water. “I was just beat. Totally, totally beat,” Bromley recalled. “I couldn’t move.” Such an outcome was not in the forecast for the d...
