After racing towards slower speeds, the Three Forks City Council put the brakes on conducting a speed study which could determine whether the town’s 15 mile per hour speed limit signs are enforceable within city limits during its Nov. 8 meeting. Montana law requires that in-town roads have set speed limits of 25 miles per hour, except around parks and schools. After the final results following the counting of provisional and unresolved ballots on Monday, there will be a new Gallatin County Attorney. As Montana's food banks deal with record demand in the wake of soaring food costs and other everyday expenses, the Town Pump Charitable Foundation is matching $1 million to help raise $4 million during its annual fundraising campaign for food banks, including the Headwaters Area Food Bank in Three Forks. Over 100 food banks statewide are participating this year in the "Be A Friend in Deed" campaign, which began in 2001. Owning a weekly newspaper makes it difficult to take a more extended vacation, and it has been years since I’ve taken more than three or four days off. At the beginning of October 2021, there were 90 registered automated external defibrillators (AED) in Gallatin County. After promotional campaigns by the Gallatin County 911 Department to get more registered in October 2021 and 2022, the number is now 345. According to Gallatin County 911 Director Tim Martindale, cardiac arrest victims who receive a shock from an AED administered by a bystander before EMS arrival have 2 to 3 times better odds of survival to hospital discharge and more favorable outcomes. Several years ago, I saw a post about a gratitude jar. Each day throughout the year, you write down what you are grateful for that day and drop it in the jar. At the end of the year, you open and read each gratitude. I loved the idea, so we adopted it about five years ago. My husband and I will take turns opening and reading each note. We do this on December 31st or January 1st. When our granddaughters visit, we have them write down what they are grateful for and drop it in the jar. STAFF REPORT A current freshman at Rocky Mountain College and 2022 graduate of Three Forks High School, Jayden Woodland helped lead the Battlin' Bears women's team to a second-place finish at the recent Frontier Conference Championship meet in Helena. Woodland earned All-Conference honors with a seventh-place finish in the 5K race at 19:44.8. Wildlife health staff with Montana Fish, Wildlife & Parks recently detected chronic wasting disease in a white-tailed deer buck that was harvested by a hunter in hunting district 311. The deer was harvested about 1 mile northeast of Cardwell on the south side of Interstate 90. This marks the first CWD detection in hunting district 311. However, the detection site was previously part of hunting district 333 but was added to hunting district 311 during FWP’s biennial season setting process last year.
