The Three Forks Speech and Drama team had great results at last week's Divisional Tournament in Missoula.

After an amazing weekend at the B/C Southern Divisional Tournament on the University of Montana campus in Missoula, the Three Forks High School Speech and Drama team will host the state tournament this week.

The Wolves were Divisional Champs in Drama and finished in second place in Speech. They qualified 27 for the state tournament that will take place on campus Friday, January 25 and Saturday, January 26.

"Having the state tournament at home is a pretty big deal and speaks to the support of our school administration and community," said head coach Greg Overman. "I cannot overstate the amount of help that has been offered for this upcoming weekend. And all of this demonstrates support for our young people who compete in this activity. It's going to be a great weekend."

At a school board meeting last week, High School Principal Justin Helvik and Superintendent Jeff Elliot both discussed the importance of the school hosting the prestigious event. Elliot said the team will be right in the hunt for a state title, and Helvik added it is a huge deal for Three Forks and a tremendous work has gone into hosting state.

Looking back at last week, Overman said in the time he has coach, this ties the best results they have had at the Divisional Tournament.

"During 2017 we also placed as 1st in drama and 2nd in speech, but that's the only other time that we have accomplished that degree of success on both sides of drama/speech. The goal every year is to place in the top three at state in both speech/drama, and this past weekend shows that we are close to that goal yet again this year," he said.

Quinn Boehm, Ravyn Lewis, Macey Combs, and Riley Blaker were all champions in their individual events.

Also placing in the top four were Ayden Israel, Kilah Pfadt, Dean Buchholz, Lilly Lindquist, Bailey Partain, Izaiah Parker, Rachel Williams, Michael Boyd, and Hannah Rumelhart.

"Placing 27 students at Divisionals and qualifying them for the state tournament is a pretty large accomplishment, and speaks to the talent, work, and toughness of the students," Overman said.

During the season, Three Forks won a total of six speech meets, and Overman said placing well at Divisionals meets the standards that has been set during the 2018-19 season.

The Three Forks Speech and Drama team is hosting this week's State Tournament.

"Yet, we have only won one drama meet this season, so winning Divisionals was a pretty big deal. This is a direct result of experienced leaders like Hannah Rumelhart, Sydney Whitesitt, Logan Connell, Ravyn Lewis, and Quinn Boehm, all of whom have been fighting for success throughout the season. Yet, what put us over the top in drama was Macey Combs/Riley Blaker and Rachel Williams/Izaiah Parker placing as champions & runners-up respectfully in Humorous Duo. Both partnerships formed in the middle of the season, had to overcome difficulties, and are putting everything together at just the right time," he said.

Bailey Partain placed in third place in Impromptu, with Overman adding she has a great chance of having a successful state tournament.

"Bailey competes in an event that requires true toughness and intelligence because every single round is different, and some of the strongest competitors in the state are in that event. Bailey works and works and works, consistently succeeding and never giving up. And on top of all that, Bailey is one of the true leaders on the team. I watched her pull several younger students aside on Saturday, encouraging them, telling them to keep fighting. Simply, Bailey is an incredible young person, she had a great divisional tournament, and will have a great state tournament," he said.
