Roger Lunde

Roger Lunde, age 70, of Rolette, ND passed away on Sunday, January 13, 2019 at his home following a courageous battle with cancer, surrounded by his loving family.

Roger was born on March 20, 1948 in Rolette, ND to Kenneth and Idella (Schettler) Lunde. He was raised on the Lunde farm, rural Rolette. Roger attended rural school in Nanson for two years and then transferred to town school and graduated from Rolette Public School in 1966. He attended college at the School of Forestry in Bottineau, ND.

Roger worked for area farmers, R&O Contractors, Rolette Farmers Union, Lee's Well Drilling, Lee's Bar, and as a math aide at St. Ann's School in Belcourt before becoming a school bus salesman for Harlow's Bus Sales in 1981.

Roger married Alyce Ann Johnson on August 15, 1971 at Valle Lutheran Church in Rolette. From this union two children were born. They made their home in Rolette until Roger's job with Harlow's took them to Three Forks, MT in 1983. Upon retirement in 2007 they returned to Rolette. In retirement, gardening kept him busy supplying fresh produce for local farmer's markets and the Food Hub in Anamoose.

Roger was a member of Valle Lutheran Church in Rolette. He served on the Valle Lutheran Church council, the Rolette Ambulance Board, the Board of Directors for the Rolette Wildlife Club, and the Montana Association of Pupil Transportation Board. He received many awards while working for Harlow's, including the 2004 M.A.P.T. Transportation Person of the Year.

Roger enjoyed the outdoors. He loved to hunt, fish, trap, garden, and watch for birds to add to his Life List of Birds. He loved working with the youth and introducing them to the joys of hunting. In Three Forks, he took many youth out for their first deer hunt. In Rolette he taught a duck/goose hunting class and took most of the youth that attended the class out for their first duck/goose hunt.

Roger is survived by is wife, Alyce Ann of Rolette; his daughter, Lisa (Darren) Thompson and their children Carly, Courtney, and Troy, all of Rolette; his son, Curtis of Rolette and his daughters Willow and Ember of Bottineau; his sister, Donna (Jens) Rice of Ft. Edwards, NY; and numerous nieces, nephews, great nieces, and great nephews.

Roger was preceded in death by his parents, his sister, Cheryl Barrett, and great niece, Julie Beaver.

A funeral service took place Monday, January 21, 2019 at 11:00 AM at Valle Lutheran Church, Rolette, ND with Pastor Jim Odden officiating. Burial will be in South Ox Creek Cemetery, Rolette, ND in the spring.
