Virgil LaVerne Carl, “Junior”, age 88, passed away Saturday January 12, 2019 in Bozeman, Montana. He was surrounded by his family.

He was born March 8, 1930 in Colby, Kansas to Virgil and Rosalie (McBride) Carl. Junior, as he was often called, was a retired Caldwell’s store manager in Colby and a skilled craftsman who enjoyed sculpting wood pieces, fixing appliances, and leading renovation projects for his family and friends.

He was a U.S. Army Veteran who proudly served during the Korean War. He also proudly coached baseball in his community of Colby, teaching youths from little league to Legion. He could often be found enjoying the daily crossword puzzles as he relished the mental challenge. Junior was an active member of his church community in Colby, and attended Journey Church in Bozeman for many years with his family and friends.

He married Lois Maxine Chick November 19, 1950 in Colby, Kansas and had three children. He is survived by Rick Carl (Kay), Emporia, LS; Debbie (Carl) Hauser, (Troy) Manhattan, MT; 8 grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren.

Junior was preceded in death by his wife Maxine, and son Roger, 2 brothers; Donnie Carl and Gary Carl, 2 sisters, Rozanne Vohs and Nancy Weese.

He was a man of many talents but his biggest joy was being around his family. A father, grandfather, great grandfather and friend, Junior was truly a loved man.

At Junior’s request, cremation has taken place. Inurnment will take place in the late spring in Colby, Kansas.
