Board discusses closure to out of district students

February 20, 2019

The Three Forks School Board of Trustees will vote next month on an action item that would close the three schools to out of district students.

The proposed action would not affect out-of-district students who are currently enrolled.

Superintendent Jeff Elliot told board members Tuesday night the topic is something they need to address. He said they are going to need to start taking care of their own and recommend closing the district until further notice. Elliot feels that while his principals do a good job of addressing this issue, this would take it out of their hands.

Board member Sheri Brown spoke in favor of the closure and said there are benefits from having out of district students when the schools are not at capacity, but this isn’t the case right now.

Three Forks High School Principal estimated nine percent of the students are from out of the district.

Looking at other area schools, Elliot said the Manhattan School District is currently closed to out of district students.
