OUR VIEW: Student involvement says a lot

The Three Forks band is a great example of kids involved at the school.

At a Three Forks School board meeting last week, I heard an amazing statistic from High School Principal Justin Helvik. He told board members that 89 percent of the students at the school are involved with some type of activity.

This level of involvement by kids in Three Forks is incredible and something everyone involved with the school and community should be very proud of.

I'm a firm believer that when a student is involved in some sort of activity that they become better students and community members. To have nearly 90 percent of the kids in Three Forks involved says a lot about the local students.

What it is also great to see is that the students are involved with a wide variety of activities. Of course, there are a lot of students who take part in football, volleyball, and basketball, but Three Forks has over 60 kids involved with speech. At the same meeting, several members of the speech team told trustees not only how important the program was for them currently, but how it will help them into the future.

It really doesn't matter if it is a sport or activity like music, band, or FCCLA, to have them involved is what matters.

It has also been great to see the wrestling team slowly grow and look for bigger numbers next year which means more kids involved.

This week the members of the two basketball teams will try to qualify for the state at the divisional tournament in Billings. These kids not only shine brightly on the court, they do the right things off the court too. They are great examples for the school and community.
