Fatal accident number down statewide in 2019

There has been a total of 24 fatalities on Montana roads in 2019, five occurring in the MDOT Region 7 that includes the Three Forks area and Gallatin County, Broadwater County, Meagher County, Madison County and Park County.

There have been a total of 5 fatal accidents this year in MDOT Region 7.

A report from the Montana Highway Patrol showed one of the District fatalities happening on the Interstate, two on state highways and two on rural roads.

According to the Montana Highway Patrol, as of April 15 the number is down statewide from the same time in 2018 where there were 28 reported fatalities on Montana roads. The number of fatalities reported at this time in 2018 in District 7 was two.

MHP data shows alcohol being suspected in 29.17 percent of the statewide fatalities, and drugs in suspected in 37.50 percent. 75 percent were reported as one vehicle accidents and in 50 percent of the fatalities a seat belt was not in use. Speed was suspected as a factor in 45.83 of the fatal accidents.
