Each year the Three Forks Masonic Lodge #73 encourages local students to read with their Bikes for Books program.

This year a total of 12 students were chosen as winners at the annual Bikes for Books assembly.

Mel Hamilton of the Masonic Lodge said the program started small several years with two or three students receiving bikes and has grown to the point that this year they were able to choose six students to win bikes and six to win Amazon Fire Kindles.

Hamilton discussed the importance of the reading program which he said has become very popular.

Hamilton said for each book the child reads, there name is entered into the contest, adding the more they read the better chance they have at winning.

He said it is phenomenal to watch the student's reaction when they are chosen and said it's not just about the prize it's about the thrill of winning.

According to Hamilton, the Statewide Masonic program matches funds donated by the local lodge.
