Nine high school seniors were awarded at total $9,600 in scholarships at a special Three Forks Education Foundation ceremony last week.

Heidi Oliver of the foundation said two $500 scholarships were given through the Ray Lau VFW Post 7621. Traci Johnston and John Jennings were the recipients of the scholarships. Kaeson Long and Sophie Langel were each awarded a $300 Three Forks Memorial Scholarship. Taylor Rochford and Paeton Ohs were each the recipient of a $500 Scholarship from Trident.

Oliver added the other scholarships were awarded to "worthy students" through the foundation.

Oliver said the students were not notified beforehand and were very surprised when they found out, adding many told her how much it would help them and their family.

Oliver felt there was a great mix of students whose futures ranged from going to technical school to medical school. She said it was a lot of fun going through the applications and there were a lot of excellent candidates.

Foundation members wanted to thank The Three Forks Memorial Scholarship Donors, L&L Site Service, Trident, Three Forks American Legion Post 93, Ray Lau VFW Post 7621, Tim's Diesel, Fidelity Community Foundation and Three Forks Friends for their donations.
