Work continues on Toston project

August 7, 2019

The Montana Department of Transportation recently released a status update on the Toston Structure Project.

According to MDOT, work on both the Missouri River and MRL Bridges continues this week. Contractors working on the embankment began a break in that work on Friday, August 2nd, which is anticipated to last approximately one month while bridge work continues. As a result, signal lights, flaggers, and rumble strips have been temporarily removed. Traffic can move freely on both lanes of the existing bridge at a reduced speed limit of 55 mph.

Bridge foundation work in the river continues to impact waterway users. For safety reasons, there will be areas of the river restricted from use/passage. A passable waterway channel is provided and visibly marked/signed for the duration of the project.

The project camera is active and can be accessed at:

Work continues on the Toston project.

This project includes construction of 3.5 miles of new roadway, two new bridges (over the Missouri River and MRL railroad tracks), a new culvert at Six Mile Creek, a tunnel for pedestrians, a school bus turnout (off Radersburg Road), installation of wildlife fencing, and intersection improvements. During the 2019 season, construction will focus on completion of the new bridge over the MRL railroad tracks and concrete footings for the Missouri River Bridge, as well as the start of roadway embankments and culvert installation (between Greaves and Radersburg Roads), including construction of part of the pedestrian tunnel. Construction will take place throughout the summer/fall of 2019.
