The start of the 2019-20 school year has brought an increase of students in the Three Forks School District.

At last night's Three Forks School Board meeting, 8-12 Principal Greg Heys and K-5 Principal Steve Fanning updated the trustees on the enrollment numbers prior to the first day of school August 21.

The enrollment is on the rise at Three Forks Elementary School.

Heys reported there are 72 in sixth grade, 68 in seventh, and 61 in eighth for a total of 201 in the middle school, an increase of 18 from last year. In the high school, Heys reported 76 in ninth grade, 60 in 10th, 47 in 11th and 54 in the senior class. He said the number is an increase of 18 and with the large ninth grade class it will be a big load on himself and the teachers, but he is looking forward to the year.

Fanning reported a total of 53 in Kindergarten, 59 in first grade, 51 in second, 58 in third, 59 in fourth and 58 in fifth for a total of 338. Fanning said this is up from 326 at the end of last school year and the most he has seen since he started with the district.

Trustee Sheri Brown said the growth is nothing they've seen historically, and the district is growing bigger percentage wise then Bozeman.

Superintendent Jeff Elliott said they are utilizing every bit of space they have and if the growth continues even one more year, they are going to have to use portable buildings.
