The Three Forks High School wrestling team kicked off 2020 in front of a home crowd last week with a 37-36 dual win over Manhattan.

The Wolves took an early 24-0 lead at the January 2nd dual with wins by forfeit at 103 (Jeff Klompien), 113 (Will McDonnell), 120 (Chase Kirkland), and 126 (Dylan Kamps) pounds. Freshman Levi Wagner put the Wolves up 30-0 with a second period pin over Porter Blanchard at 132 pounds.

The Tigers would bounce back picking up wins by pin at 145, 152, 160, and 170 pounds, as well as a win by forfeit at 182 pounds to take a 36-30 lead. Three Forks would tie the dual with a win by forfeit at 205 pounds (Domanic LaBonte).

Head Coach Nye Howey said this was the first time the Wolves had been able to host a dual since the program was added three years ago and it was fun to be able to do so in front of a good crowd.

"I do wish we would have wrestled a little bit better. Our nerves were in our way a little bit, but we ended up pulling it out," he said.

In their first matches since December, Howey added the break was tough with a lot of people traveling, but they are really getting after it and are getting into a packed January schedule.

Three Forks will be in home action again this week with a January 9 mixer starting at 6 p.m. and will travel to Cut Bank for a weekend tournament.

Howey said the bigger tournaments like Cut Bank will give them a better feeling for the divisional tournament and more individual matches for the kids.

TOM LEPROWSE

Three Forks found a great deal of success on the second day of action on January 4 at the Tom LeProwse Invitational in Bozeman.

The Wolves had nine wrestlers place in Saturday's Junior Varsity Tournament.

Levi Wagner finished in second and Kamps was third, LaBonte was fifth, Schade, Jesse Eide, and Kace Eriksson were sixth, and McDonnell and Klompien both finished in seventh place.
