Wolves take positives from Manhattan game, host Columbus Friday

The Three Forks High School football team will be looking to pick up their first conference win of the season Friday when they host Columbus.

In action last week, the Wolves fell to 1-1 on the season with a 47-0 homecoming loss to rival Manhattan.

Despite the loss, Head Coach Connor Sullivan said there are a lot more positives then negatives to take away from the game.

“Would of we liked to win? Absolutely. But Manhattan, they’re a good football team and ranked #2 in the state. They showed that last night. But I thought our kids competed all night and gave it their all,” he said. “We’re still a young team. No seniors, lots of freshman and sophomores. But there are definitely things we need to work on. Missed reads and tackles. We left a couple plays out there.”

Looking towards Columbus (1-1), Sullivan knows his team needs to be better up front.

“It’s a little tougher when you’re so young up front, but we still have to go play football and be physical. Establish the run game, which in turn will set up our pass game. Columbus likes to throw the football. We have to shut down their run game and make them one dimensional. If we do that, we’ll be fine. Offensively, take what the defense is giving us. It’s not always a big play and as young team they’re still learning that. Take what they’re giving us and move the chains,” he said.
