OUR VIEW: Future bright for Three Forks Wrestling

March 20, 2019

The future looks extremely bright for Three Forks wrestling.

The decision by the school board several years ago to add wrestling as a sport led to a team returning to the high school for the first time in several decades. This was a monumental decision for the future of wrestling in Three Forks and over the past two years they have seen their numbers slowly grow and have had two competitors at the state tournament, and this year hosted their first home event in 35 years.

The program will continue to grow with a large group of middle school students coming in next year. The school board, coaching staff, and wrestlers have laid the groundwork for a program that is on the rise in Southwest Montana.

The past few months have also shown an excellent glimpse into the future of wrestling in Three Forks. Several huge tournaments have been hosted at the high school and this is a huge deal to be able to have the community host these events. It shows that Three Forks is committed to being a strong wrestling community.

The younger wrestlers involved with the Three Forks Wrestling Club, Little Guy Wrestling, and Headwaters Academy have also displayed great skill during the year and week after week produce great results.

One of the biggest boons to the future of wrestling in Three Forks was the recent opening of a wrestling room which serves as a practice facility for the school and club organizations. The Friends of Three Forks wrestling worked hard to make this a reality and it is a necessary location to grow all of the programs. The kids needed a dedicated spot to hone their craft and this is exactly what they got.

It's going to be fun to see the programs grow over the next few years. Wrestling is a sport whose lessons go far beyond the mat and can be carried on later into life. It's amazing to see it becoming a growing part of the community.
