Miss Montana will be doing flybys next week in Three Forks

There will be plenty of fun for all ages next week at the 42nd annual Three Forks Fly In.

The event sponsored by the Montana Antique Aircraft Association is scheduled to take place Friday, August 2 and Saturday, August 3 at the Three Forks Airport.

According to Pat Green of the MAAA, the event originally started on a farm in Lewistown and was moved to Three Forks two years later.

She said the Fly In is free of charge and has been really well received by the Three Forks Community. Green added in the past there have been 50 to 60 planes at the event and there will be antiques, classics, as well as more contemporary planes.

The featured plane in 2019 is a 1948 Twin Beech flying in from Idaho Falls.

Miss Montana, a C-47 aircraft that recently made the successful flight to Normandy will be doing flybys late in the morning of August 3. The plane that was built in 1944 was scheduled to make a landing at the Three Forks Fly In but this was changed to concerns about the width of the runway.

Also included at the 2019 Fly In will be flour bombing and spot landings scheduled for August 3 at 2 p.m.

The event also has plenty of fun for kids.

A ping pong drop for kids three to 12 is also scheduled for August 3 at 1:30 p.m.

Green said the pilots are always excited to talk with the kids and hopefully the fly in will give them an inkling for a future in flight.

The Shriners will have a food trailer August 2 and 3. The MAAA is serving a dinner August 2 at 6:30 p.m. Local Boy Scouts will be serving breakfast August 3 at 7 a.m. and lunch at 11 a.m. A gun raffle is also planned.
