A clean up of the Lewis and Clark Caverns is scheduled for next week.

Each year Lewis & Clark Caverns brings over 60,000 visitors through the cave system leaving behind dust and debris which can inhibit the growth of the cave formations. Lewis & Clark Caverns relies on volunteer efforts to help fight the problems that these contaminants create. This cave cleaning project will help restore parts of the cave that are highly impacted by humans while raising awareness for cave protection.

Volunteers will go through a cave cleaning orientation before heading to the cave to clean lint and algae. Lunch will be provided following the cleanup.

Participants should wear clothes that have never been in another cave or mine, bring gloves and a water bottle. Helmets, headlamps, and knee pads are also recommended.

If you are interested in volunteering to help protect this beautiful natural resource, call the park visitor center at (406) 287-3541 or email Michelle Griffith at [email protected] by September 23.
