Kinzee Howey returns after getting varsity experience last season.

Three Forks High School girls basketball head coach Mike Sauvageau is pleased with the effort of his team as they prepare for this week's season-opening Imerys Tournament.

"It's going very good. They've been working really hard and have a great attitude. They are excited for their first games," he said.

Gone from last year's team are Kyle Olson and Paeton Ohs who were the top two scorers and rebounders for the Wolves. Sauvageau is hoping the returning players learned from last year and hopefully, their experience on both the varsity and junior varsity level can get them off to a good start.

Sauvageau plans on going nine or ten players deep at the start of the season.

"I think we are going to have to go after people with our defense a little bit and if somebody gets in foul trouble it will have to be next man up. I think everybody is going to get a chance to play and contribute and will see what happens and who can play at the varsity level"

Keaton Lynn had huge minutes as a freshman.

The Wolves are scheduled to open the season Friday, December 13 at 5:30 p.m. against Ennis and will play Fairfield Saturday at 5:30 p.m.

Sauvageau and the staff will be looking to see who is going to step up for the team and take rolls on offense and defense. He said Kendall Lynn and Breanna Bloch both had great summers, but this is a different crew than they've had in the past.

"It is a bunch of girls that really have great attitudes and work hard. I'm excited for the season and I think they are too," he said.

Sauvageau added they host the annual tournament to see teams they don't always get to throughout the regular season including what he called a very tough Fairfield team.

"It's going to be a tough weekend, but it is going to be fun. I like playing good competition and it's going to make you better down the road," he said.
