Three Forks defeats Ennis

December 18, 2019

The Three Forks High School girls basketball team used a well-balanced scoring attack to pick up a season-opening 44-28 victory against Ennis.

Head Coach Mike Sauvageau said after three weeks of practice it was nice to finally be able to play somebody other than themselves.

Ten Wolves would score in the game led by Ashlynn Swenson with 11 points. Kendall Lynn finished with eight, Erin Welter had seven, and Keaton Lynn had five. Kinzee Howey and Breanna Bloch each had four, and Lily Jones had two. Jayden Woodland, Payton Page, and Genesis Parker each finished with one point.

"We are going to be playing 10 or 11 different girls every game. Different girls are going to have different roles. On different nights new people are going to need to step up," Sauvageau said.

Trailing 11-8 at the end of the first, Three Forks would clamp down on the Mustangs with strong defensive play in the second and third.

Breanna Bloch goes for the rebound against Ennis.

Sauvageau was pleased with the play on defense but knows the team needs to find its groove on offense.

"We got to get better on offense and start putting the ball in the basket. But our effort is there. The girls were all over the floor doing everything I ask. They were working hard and will continue to do that. We've got a long way to go but it is always nice to win your first one," he said.

In Saturday action at the Imerys Tournament, the Wolves fell 48-35 against Fairfield.

Kendall Lynn led the team with 13 points and Howey was also in double figures with 10. Bloch added eight, Page added four, and Welter had two points.

Three Forks will wrap up the 2019 portion of the schedule with road games Thursday at Big Timber and Friday at Whitehall.
