Due to COVID a private funeral service was held on Tuesday, August 25, 2020, at the K & L Mortuary Chapel in Three Forks, Montana. His funeral was officiated by Rev. Charles Christensen.

Gary is proceeded in death by his parents: Melvin & Ester Rutledge, Sister Roberta (Berta) Anderson, Grandson Scott Dykman. He is survived in life by his wife of 56 years Margaret Rutledge, Donna Koontz (David), Ronnie Rutledge, Dianne Rutledge, Robin Wanner(Ben), Marie Tribble(Kelly), grandchildren Michael Dykman, Ronald Koontz, Joshua Boegli, Richard Boegli, Chelsie Boone Chris Wanner, Chelsey Lewallen (Jason) & Erin Frick (Dana) & 15 great grandchildren.
