Our View: Importance of shopping local

While Thanksgiving is traditionally known as a time for family and friends to come together, the following day has become synonymous with “Black Friday” and the start of the Christmas shopping season.

It is a bit unfortunate that day has turned into such a spectacle with many “box stores” having sales that have traditionally seen people waiting in line for the next great deal just seconds after finishing their second helping of pumpkin pie. As frustrating as it can be to see the masses come out to start their shopping, it is also important to remember the following day and how “Small Business Saturday” is so important to many small businesses across the United States.

This is undoubtedly the case in Three Forks, and this Saturday will once again serve as a tremendous opportunity to get out and support the fantastic businesses in town.

A huge few days to start the holiday shopping season can do so much for a business and this even more the case in 2021 after a 2020 that saw so many places affected by the COVID-19 pandemic.

There are so many positive things about Three Forks, and one of those is the local businesses. They provide the opportunity for a unique gift and something far different than what you might see at a “box store”.

It is always a big deal to shop local, which is, even more the case during the holiday season. Not only do these businesses provide something unique and are the backbone of downtown, but they are also the same places that throughout the year give back to local schools, teams, and organizations.

It is now more important than ever to give back to them.

When you are out shopping, also make sure to stop by one of the great restaurants and bars to get something to eat or a drink. These same businesses have had to deal with a lot of the past couple of years. They deserve as much support as they can get.
