MDT provides update on Headwaters Rest Area

From the MDT

Construction of the Montana Department of Transportation's Headwaters Rest Area near the I 90/US 287 interchange is nearly complete and is anticipated to open this winter, when the new rest area can be connected to the new community water system. The new rest area will replace the dated and undersized rest area located at the 19th Avenue interchange in Bozeman and is being constructed by the Montana Rest Area JV Partners (a C.A. Rickert and Associates Inc./Diamond Construction Joint Venture) team. MDT will announce date of the closure of the old facility and the opening of the new facility as soon as possible, pending the completion of some final facility details.

The project team has made safety a top priority with the design of the new facility, which includes open sight lines for patrolling, license plate-reading and security cameras, and LED lighting throughout the interior and exterior of the rest area facility and parking lot. A feature that is not typically included in rest areas, but that will serve nearby communities, is the addition of a Law Enforcement Office that will be available for use by the Broadwater County Sheriff, Montana Highway Patrol, and MDT Motor Carrier Services. Coordination with those agencies is ongoing; all are planning to use the space when opened.

Only a few construction and landscaping items remain on the new facility. The construction of the turning lane on US 287 is ongoing; the traveling public may encounter brief travel delays while that is constructed. Please drive carefully though the work zone.
