Senior wrestlers recognized, Wolves finish second at Class B/C Duals

Not only did a January 19 Mixer event give local fans a chance to cheer on the Three Forks High School Wrestling team as they won 12 of 16 matches, but it also was an opportunity to highlight the five senior members of the team.

Jesse Eide, Dylan Kamps, Chase Kirkland, Brayden Linville, and Levi Wagner were all recognized before the competition.

Following the mixer, an emotional Head Coach Nye Howey discussed what the five have meant to the program.

"This group of seniors has been with me since they were five. It's tough for me to see them go, but they are on to bigger and better things. These guys are tremendous. I've loved having them all in the program, and we are going to miss them," said Howey. "We have some young guys to come up and replace them, but I don't know if we can ever replace these five. I am so proud of them. A couple are going to wrestle in college, and we will watch them in the big show. I'm excited for them to finish out their senior year strong."

Jack Hayder, Linville, Mathias Hogue, Gabe Hungerford, Thomas Rowan, Vincent Diaz, Logan Douma, Kirkland, Wyatt Hart-Barker (2), Kamps, and Wagner all had victories at the mixer.

The Wolves' performance was strong at last week's B/C Duals in Townsend.

Three Forks opened the tournament dominantly on January 20 with wins over Choteau (48-30), Cut Bank (57-17), and Manhattan (66-6).

In quarterfinal action on January 21, the Wolves advanced to the semifinals with a 54-18 win over Anaconda. The Wolves moved on to the finals with a 43-27 win over Jefferson High School.

In a matchup of the top two ranked teams in Class B, Three Forks fell in the finals 51-21 to Huntley Project.

This week the team will travel to the Mission Tournament scheduled for January 28 in St. Ignatius.

Howey said they would have the opportunity to see some teams they don't usually don't compete with during the regular season.

"I'm looking forward to it," he said.
