Vacancy of Three Forks City Council

For the second time in 2023, the Three Forks City Council has had a member resign.

City officials announced last week that longtime Councilmember Debra Mickelberry has resigned effective immediately.

Every resident of the City of Three Forks who is 18 years of age or older, a citizen of Montana, and a resident in the city limits for at least 60 days pursuant to 7-4-4401, MCA, and a qualified elector pursuant to Article IV, Part IV, Section 2 of the Montana Constitution is eligible to hold the office of council member.

Interested candidates shall submit a letter stating their interest to the City Clerk at [email protected] or via mail or hand delivery to City Hall (206 Main Street / PO Box 187, Three Forks, MT 59752) no later than 6 p.m. on May 23, 2023. Listing any additional details about yourself you think make you a great candidate would be appreciated but are not required.

Per Section 2.09 of the City Charter, the City Council shall appoint, by the affirmative vote of at least four members, a person possessing the qualifications for office within 30 days of the vacancy. The person filling the vacancy is subject to nomination and election at the next general municipal election, except the term shall be limited to the unexpired term ending 12/31/2023.

Appointment:

The first scheduled meeting in June exceeds 30 days, so the City Council will hold its second meeting of the month in May IF any letters of interest are received on/before May 23. Appointment of this vacancy is scheduled for 6 p.m. on May 23, 2023 and will be continued to a future hearing if no appointment occurs on said date.
