For Three Forks residents, those across the Gallatin Valley, and visitors, the Headwaters Trails System has become a go to destination that is utilized throughout the year.

May 8 is surely to be a monumental day for both the trail system and the City of Three Forks with a Rails to Trails Conservancy Grand America Rail-Trail Route event scheduled to take place locally.

First and foremost, the event will serve as a great showcase of the trail system and city. Three Forks was selected along with Washington D.C., Columbus, OH., and Seattle to host similar events. Hosting alongside some of the larger cities in America says a lot about how the conservancy feels about the local trail system. It is a huge honor for Three Forks. It serves as a chance for local residents to come together and show the pride they not only have in a thriving community, but how proud they are of the trail system.

For everyone who has worked hard to make the trail system the success it is today and for everyone that uses them this is a day they can be very proud of.

The Grand America Rail-Trail Route is a very ambitious undertaking, and something that will take a lot of time and effort. To have the Headwaters Trail as a showcase of a system that is currently 53 percent complete is something special.

The more attention the local trails receive is a good thing. People who visit and use the trail system and visit the Missouri Headwaters State Park often do take time to visit Three Forks and shop at the some of the amazing local businesses and stay at local hotels.

The event in May is definitely something to look forward to.
