  • Guest Edit: A Montana-Driven Solution to Access in the Crazy Mountains

    Lorents Grosfield|Apr 10, 2024

As a third-generation cattle rancher and a former three-term Senate member of the Montana Legislature, I have seen firsthand the power of Montanans rolling up their sleeves and working collaboratively to achieve a common goal. It’s the Montana way. Our family’s multi-generational ranch, located northwest of Big Timber, is a stone’s throw away from the jagged and awe-inspiring Crazy Mountain island range. For over 5 years now, I have witnessed a diversity of Montanans coming together to solve a complex problem on the east side of the Crazy...

  • Column: Oh crap, they were not waving at me

    Jack H. Smith, Three Forks Voice|Apr 10, 2024

The older I get, the more I like to be at home. This is a drastic change from when I started working as an adult and would usually just be home to sleep. There was always something to do, and I would get stir-crazy if I had to spend more than a couple of evenings in a row at my house. As much as I like the friendly confines of where I live, my job requires me to get out in public quite a bit, which is good so that I don’t become a complete hermit. Much of my time out of the house is spent covering different things. A lot of times, this is at a... Full story

  • Wolves dominate Butte Central

    Jack H. Smith, Three Forks Voice|Apr 10, 2024

For the second straight week, the Three Forks High School Softball team did not need a full seven innings to come away with a victory. The Wolves were once again dominant from the start on April 2 with a 15-0 win over Butte Central in a game that was called after four innings due to the mercy rule. According to Head Coach Clay Feliciano, senior pitcher Fallon Page finished with seven strikeouts and allowed just two hits over the four innings. Page has now opened the season with seven scoreless... Full story

The Three Forks High School Golf team had two top-ten finishers at last Thursday’s season-opening tournament on April 4 at the Florence-Darby Invitational. According to Head Coach Aaron Harkins, the girls’ team ended up in third place, which also matched Ari Judd’s individual place. “Ari finished with a 90, and although there were a few shots she wished she had back, we were very pleased overall,” Harkins said. Claire Van Vleet finished with a 125, Paige Lien ended her round at 130, and Kennedy Rogers finished at 160. On the boys’ side, Harki... Full story

  • Snowy February Weather Tapers off, More Snow is Needed to Improve this Summer's Water Supply Outlook

    Apr 10, 2024

Given the lack of precipitation from November through most of January in Montana, above normal precipitation was needed over the last couple of months. "February did provide well above normal precipitation to nearly all of Montana and those weather patterns continued into the first week of March across the state," said Eric Larson, USDA Natural Resources Conservation Service (NRCS) Water Supply Specialist. What seemed to be the beginning of a potential recovery only tapered off in many basins....

  • Another strong day for TFHS Track and Field

    Jack H. Smith, Three Forks Voice|Apr 10, 2024

The Three Forks High School Track and Field team had a slew of fantastic performances at last week’s Fergus Invite on April 4 in Lewistown. It was quite the day for Wolves senior Colten Hayder, who finished first in the 200 meters with a time of 23.89 and tenth in the 100 meters at 11.83. “Seeing Colton winning that race was a pleasant surprise. We knew he was fast, but we’d be crazy if we were to expect the number two time in Class B fast, especially at his first track meet this year. Coach Noble and I are pretty sure he is only going to get f... Full story

    Jack H. Smith, Three Forks Voice|Apr 10, 2024

The Three Forks High School Tennis team battled the elements last Friday at the CMR Courts in Great Falls, playing matches against Chinook and Chester-Joplin-Inverness. "We fought and struggled through cold, wet tennis weather. We spent an hour just trying to get water off the courts with squeegees. It was a high of 41, and you could feel it. But finally, the courts dried up just enough, and we got 23 matches," Head Coach Janna Lauver said. The Wolves squad ended the day with nine victories.... Full story

  • Letter to the Editor: Freeing Montana's Supreme Court from political bias

    Apr 10, 2024

Cory Swanson is a candidate for Chief Justice of the Montana Supreme Court. His recent opinion piece on the Clark Fork Valley Press is a timely reminder that Montana isn’t immune from political bias. The politicization of courts is a serious threat to our system of government at all levels, federal, state, and local. If Montanans don’t take this threat seriously in November, we risk 8 more years of allowing the Montana Supreme Court to throw out Montana laws because of political or personal motives. This risk is even more evident con...

  • Letter to the editor: Endorsement of Kyle McMurray

    Apr 10, 2024

Dear Editor; I am writing to inform readers of the candidate Kyle McMurray who is running for a seat in House District 77. Kyle was born and raised in Manhattan, Montana, so he knows the people of House District 77. He has lived in Gallatin County his whole life and paid property taxes as a homeowner and as a business owner. Like my husband and I, he has concerns for the young families raising children in District 77. How do we help our children afford a home and raise their children in a safe State? He is one of us, willing to go to Helena...

  • Letter to the Editor: Klebenow gives support for McMurray

    Apr 10, 2024

Dear Editor, All too often we as constituents elect candidates we don’t personally know or don’t know anything about. Only by their popularity in advertising and their name being plastered everywhere. Know candidates personally and what they stand for is what we as small-town folks strive for, let alone a true Montanan. I recently signed a lease with candidate Kyle McMurray and his partner for an office space to run my small business out of. The process was more than smooth, open-hearted and welcoming. Upon being in the space for 1 week, I had...

I know him to be an honest and hardworking man, who makes decisions with integrity. I know he is committed to helping preserve Montana values. I’m confident that he will advocate for parental rights, property rights, public access for sportsmen and women, as well as do what he can to protect family ranches and farms that are being threatened from different avenues, among other tradi...

    Steve Fanning, TFES Principal|Apr 10, 2024

Three Forks Elementary is starting to gear up for the 2024-2025 school year. One of the funnest parts about this preparation is kindergarten screening. Kindergarten Screening is held each year to assist TFES staff with identifying the development of incoming K students. It also provides a great opportunity to give some helpful information to parents. If you live within the Three Forks District and have a child that will be 5 by September 10th, it is highly encouraged to have your child attend screening. Screening will take place on May 1st and... Full story
