Those who have recently driven by the local schools are sure to have noticed a portable radar speed sign that was recently purchased and placed by the City of Three Forks.

According to City Clerk Crystal Turner, the Council approved the purchase of the sign in January with money from their gas tax fund. She said the sign keeps traffic data information which can be downloaded to the cloud.

The sign is currently located at the intersection of 2nd St. and E. Neal St.

Three Forks Schools Superintendent Jeff Elliott said he loves the current location of the sign.

"Hopefully it will get people to slow down," he said.

Turner said the sign will be moved around to different locations a possible future location for the sign will be on 7th St.

At the January meeting, Council Member Debra Mickelberry said she had been researching portable flashing speed signs as a possible use for that money. Council Member Gene Townsend added that in his personal experience the speed signs are effective in slowing drivers down. Broadwater County Sheriff Wynn Meehan, who was present at the meeting, reiterated that the data is crucial for getting coverage to the problem areas.
