Hopes for onsite instruction for 2020-21 school year

While Three Forks Superintendent Jeff Elliott would like to have kids back at the three district schools at the start of the 2020-21 school year, he is also planning for alternative scenarios.

Elliott addressed the issue at last week's school board meeting and also aired frustration with state leadership for not making a lot of decisions for what they are going to do for the start of school.

Elliott said South Carolina currently has a plan in place right now and they know exactly what they are going to do and wishes this was the case in Montana. He added they might just have to go ahead and make their own decision as a district.

Elliott said one area where they are at the mercy of the state, governor, and CDC is in transportation, as well as if they would be going to block scheduling, something he described as a huge change to be made.

"It is something we look at daily. Our ultimate goal is this – to get kids back in front of a teacher," he said.

District officials are hoping for onsite instruction for the 2020-21 school year.

Discussing the end of the school year, Elliott has had the opportunity to talk to many parents, educators and students and while work was getting done, he wasn't sure if learning was taking place.

Along with the goal of getting teachers in front of students, Elliott said they must also incorporate a blended model of learning in case a student is gone for an extended period of time, and the administrative team will continue to work through the summer on what he said is a very dynamic and changing situation.

K-5 Principal Steve Fanning discussed Professional Development that took place last week at the school and said there are a lot of unknowns. He said what the teachers went through last year was rough, but the training should put some new tools in their staff's hands.
