FEMA Denies City Grant Application

August 4, 2021

City Treasurer and Flood Plain Administrator Kelly Smith announced last week the City of Three Forks had been informed they would not be receiving a FEMA Building Resilient Infrastructure and Communities (BRIC) Grant.

The City originally applied for the grant in December that would have paid 75 percent of a mitigation project to reduce flooding from the Jefferson River by putting in 3,600 feet of channels.

Smith said she is unsure why the city was turned down.

The estimated cost of the mitigation plan is $5,042,000. The FEMA BRIC Grant amount to the city was applying for was $3,781,500.
