  • Skate Park 5K Fundraiser Next Week

    A 5K run in June at Stevenson Park will help raise funds for a skate park in Three Forks. The run hosted by the Three Forks Skate Park Coalition is scheduled for Saturday, June 10, from 2 p.m. to 6 p.m. According to Justin Higginbotham, the coalition's objective is to put a 3,500-square-foot skate park in Stevenson Park suitable for children, teens, and adults.   • Counties to receive MCEP Grants

    Gallatin and Broadwater Counties will each receive $750,000 in Montana Coal Endowment Program (MCEP) Grants for replacing the two bridges on Old Town Road. Montana Governor Greg Gianforte signed House Bill 11 earlier this month, which will allocate the funds to the governing bodies. At a meeting last week, Broadwater County Commission Chair Debbi Randolph announced they had received confirmation on the funding from the Governor's office.   • McDermott is new Council member

    There is a new member of the Three Forks City Council. The governing body voted 4-0 last week to appoint Roxi McDermott to the Council. McDermott will take over the position of longtime council member Debra Mickelberry who resigned earlier this month. Before the vote, Council President Gene Townsend said McDermott has worked for nine years at First Security Bank, where she is the bank manager.     At a public meeting last week with two officials from the Montana Department of Transportation, residents of southern Broadwater County shared their concerns about the Headwaters Rest Area and traffic on US 287. Butte District Engineers Dave Cunningham and Jeff Harrison were both in attendance at the meeting hosted by the Broadwater County Commission.     Members of the Class of 2023 were honored with scholarships last week at a ceremony hosted by the Three Forks Education Foundation. The foundation awarded $12,500 in Three Forks Worthy Student Scholarships to 14 senior class members. Lydia Kluin, Brielle Davis, Inna Pachalova, Mina Pachalova, Morgan Karn, Alecia Gonzalez, Carey Hansen, Cadence Brown, Reagan Buchignani, Finn Hansen, and Jesse Eide all received $1,000 scholarships.     In Memory of: Bob Duncan, Damon Boyington and Coach Jerry LaRoque Dear Former TFHS Grads and community members, I am once again asking for donations for the Three Forks H.S. Memorial Scholarship Fund. The fund has provided scholarships to TFHS graduates since 2000 totaling over $8000. The fund balance is currently at $18000 and the yearly interest is providing scholarship funds around $800 per year. My goal has always been around $50,000 in funds that would provide 2 -$1000 Scholarships per year. I know this is a lofty goal but small donations... Full story

    Eleven Three Forks High School Track and Field team members ended their 2023 at last week's Class B State Meet at Bulldog Memorial Stadium in Butte. "For our kids that made it, they competed well and overcame delays or weather. I'm so proud of them for making it and getting the opportunity to represent Three Forks," said Head Coach Casey McWethy.     James Clifford Phillips, 74, of Three Forks passed away suddenly on May 23 at his family cabin in the mountains above Pony. Jim was born in Three Forks to Cliff and Ruth (Colegrove) Phillips. Jim grew up on the west side of town on the edge of Buttleman's field. He played in the woods and river bottom all day, collecting sheds and dragging stuff from the old dump to build forts.     Russell Calvert Green, age 87 of Bozeman, went to drive the big semi (“boop boop”) in the sky on May 21, 2023. Russ was born to Gail Green and Lydia Bennett Green in Bozeman where he also spent most of his youth. Russ was a self-made man who worked and played hard his whole life. He hiked Hollowtop Mountain at age 70. He was in the National Guard in Bozeman and Butte from 1958-1965. He married Sandi Duncan July 3, 1962, at which time he worked for the city of Bozeman.     From the Three Forks Area Ambulance TFAA EMTs and EMT students from the Whiteline EMT Class that is currently being held at TFAA Station participated in helicopter training in the evening of Tuesday May 23 at Stevenson Park.
