The newest Gallatin County tax bills include the first per-parcel assessment of $195 for the City of Three Forks Jefferson River Floodplain Mitigation Project. In 2022, the Three Forks City Council passed a resolution of intent to create Special Improvement District #34 and selected a per-parcel assessment method to help cover the costs of the project that will use a grass-lined conveyance channel and culvert crossing improvements to reduce flood risk from the Jefferson River. The City of Three Forks is seeking letters of interest from residents interested in two Council seats that will become vacant on January 1, 2024. Earlier this year, the governing body canceled an election for three four-year terms on the Council. As ever-increasing food costs and other everyday expenses push more Montanans to local food banks for help, the Town Pump Charitable Foundation is again matching over $1 million to help raise $4 million during its annual fundraising campaign for food banks, including the Headwaters Area Food Bank in Three Forks. After finishing fifth at the recent Montana High School Association Class B State Meet, Three Forks eighth grader Teegan Gifford ran her way to another podium at last week's prestigious NXR Northwest Regionals in Boise. Neil G Toma passed away on November 1, 2023, due to natural causes. Neil was born in Townsend, Montana on September 30, 1943. He was the sixth of six children born to Eli and Marion Toma, and was raised on a ranch near Radersburg, Montana. On the ranch, Neil learned the value of hard work that helped him later in life. He had to travel to Townsend for school, and later lived with his sister, Dorothy LeTempt in Three Forks and finished school in Willow Creek. He graduated from Willow Creek High School in 1961.
