  • DOR mailing appraisal notices, meeting in Three Forks scheduled for July 26

    Jun 28, 2023

The Montana Department of Revenue is mailing property classification and appraisal notices to all owners of residential, commercial, industrial and agricultural land properties. These notices are not tax bills. Instead, they include the Montana DOR's determination of market or productivity value and the taxable value for your property that will be used to determine the property taxes owed for 2023 and 2024. If property owners disagree with the department's determination of value for their... Full story

  • Department of Revenue Notices: Notices: Are your property taxes going up?

    Eric Dietrich, Montana Free Press|Jun 28, 2023

If you’re fortunate enough to own a home in Montana, keep an eye out in the coming weeks for a reappraisal notice from the state Department of Revenue that will tell you how much the property value used to calculate your tax bill has changed over the last two years. Given Montana’s soaring housing prices, those notices may cause a few heart attacks. Revenue analysts told lawmakers last November that they expected residential property values to in-crease by a whopping 43% on average between 2022 and 2023. It’s tricky, however, to tell precisely... Full story

With our current high rivers and irrigation larvaciding efforts are greatly reduced. also, with the daytime temperatures being fairly tolerable, human/mosquito interaction is almost unavoidable. We have only had a few nights of good fog and conditions to try to adulticide our district. Our district is large, so we can only do a portion on the nights that we can... Full story

  • Our View: Have fun, but be mindful of fireworks

    Jun 28, 2023

With the 4th of July next week, many residents have already purchased fireworks or will soon. Those looking to buy fireworks can also help out some great kids with two stands (Three Forks Market/Off U.S. 287) run by Three Forks Wrestling clubs. This is a hard-working group of kids, and the money they raise will help them compete in Montana and at events throughout the nation. While fireworks are a great time, it is also imperative to be safe to not only avoid injuries but not to start any fires. While the start of the summer had a lot of cooler... Full story

  • Column: Maybe its best the bird pooped where it did

    Jack H. Smith, Three Forks Voice|Jun 28, 2023

One of my first memories took place on the 4th of July. While the memory has always been vague and fades increasingly with time, it still has quite an impact. I cannot remember my age, but I couldn’t have been older than four. I remember being with my dad’s side of the family, and we had all gone a few miles out of town to let off fireworks. From what I can remember, we had purchased a ton of fireworks. We had plenty of things like sparklers to entertain the younger kids, and the adults had bought plenty of fun for them too. Early in the eve... Full story

According to Tester, funding was secured through the Infrastructure Investment and Jobs Act (IIJA) and American Rescue Plan Act. "This month in my office, we've been calling it high-speed internet month. That's because we've made some real progress in getting internet out to folks in Montana who need it the most," Tester said. • Coaches Corner by Ellie West: Family Connections

    Jun 28, 2023

Summer means longer days, more time outdoors, BBQs, hikes, adventures, events, and family gatherings. My husband and I have hosted family gatherings for the last several years. Family members, siblings, their spouses, and cousins come in from other states to celebrate as we reconnect and make new and beautiful memories. Our long-term goal in hosting family gatherings is to leave a legacy where the family will reconnect each year. Families are important, but what is more important is the physical time we get to spend together. Making time for fa...

  • Rockin' the Rivers: Pop Evil to play at 'The Bridge' on August 11

    L. Kent Wolgamott, For the Three Forks Voice|Jun 28, 2023

There's an argument that, in the streaming era, there's no reason to make an album, that music is now a track-by-track playlist world in which only the most dedicated fans will listen to an 11-song package. So why did singer Leigh Kakaty and Pop Evil just make and release their seventh album, "Skeletons?" "The real answer?" he responded in a mid-March interview. "I'm under contract, so you got to make an album." That said, Kakaty said, he understands the conundrum surrounding making albums... Full story

  • Look out for harmful Algae Blooms while recreating this summer

    Jun 28, 2023

When recreating on Montana’s waterbodies this spring, summer and fall, be on the lookout for harmful algal blooms (HABs) that can occur on Montana’s reservoirs and lakes. While not all algal blooms contain toxins, the blooms can impact human health and the health of freshwater ecosystems. Report suspected HABs at HAB.mt.gov to help others be alert and prevent illness. How to identify a HAB: • A coloration or scum on the surface of the water that can look like grass clippings or spilled paint. • Blooms are often blue, green or gold in color....
