    Jack H. Smith, Three Forks Voice|Dec 20, 2023

There was some amazing recent news for the Three Forks Area Ambulance (TFAA) Service with the arrival and installation of a new Stryker Power Load Cot. According to Barbara Mutter of TFAA, the $53,000 cot was purchased with American Rescue Plan Act (ARPA) funding from Gallatin County. Mutter is excited about the new equipment, describing it as the "Mercedes" of cots, and said it will save TFAA personnel's shoulders, backs, and knees. Mutter also stressed the importance of the cot's locking syste... Full story

  • Council Fills 2 Vacancies

    Jack H. Smith, Three Forks Voice|Dec 20, 2023

The two Three Forks City Council seats that will become vacant at the end of 2023 have been filled. The governing body voted last week to appoint current Councilmember Roxi McDermott and resident Garret Buchanan to fill the vacancies. McDermott, Buchanan, and Reagan Hooten had all sent letters of interest for the vacancies that expire at the end of 2025. Before the vote, Councilmember Gene Townsend said the seats were vacant after current member Nancy Todd chose not to seek reelection, and McDermott did not get her paperwork filed before the de... Full story

  • Mayor Johnston steps up to benefit area residents

    Dec 20, 2023

HRDC's Galavan bus driver in Three Forks recently retired, and after a lengthy hiring process that did not result in any job candidates, the paratransit service was temporarily suspended. Area seniors and those with disabilities had relied on the service for door-to-door transportation to medical appointments, some of which were in Bozeman, as well as to the grocery store and other essential service establishments. Most distressing of all, regular riders in need of weekly dialysis and veterans... Full story

  • Guest Editorial: Court order on 95 mills protects taxpayers and students equally

DR. DOUGLAS REISIG, Montana Quality Education Coalition|Dec 20, 2023

The Montana Supreme Court’s recent order upholding the Montana Department of Revenue’s calculation of the 95 school equalization mills provided a protective shield for residential property taxpayers and students educated in Montana’s public schools. The court’s decision respected and preserved bipartisan decisions made by the 2023 Legislature estimating revenues and appropriating funds to fund Montana’s public schools. Some county officials erroneously asserted that levying 77.89 instead of 95 school equalization mills would have saved the... Full story

  • Column: Thinking about the upcoming New Year

    Jack H. Smith, Three Forks Voice|Dec 20, 2023

With this being the last edition of the Three Forks Voice for 2023, it’s a perfect time to reflect on the past year and look ahead to the new year. While 2023 was not my favorite year, it wasn’t the worst. There were a few great memories, another year of questionable decisions, and a flying off-the-road incident in the middle of nowhere I’d like to forget. As I look to 2024, I have a few things I’d like to try and see if they will help with my constant aggravation in the world. The older I get, the grumpier I seem to be, so I hope a few cha... Full story

Townsend reported that in May, the City of Three... Full story

The nearly $3 million in Gallatin County Open Land funds will be the first step in purchasing the conservation easements for the MJ Home Place Ranch, which is 864 acres and located 1.5 miles south of Three Forks and the 2,268 acres Kamps Ranches Property located west of the Gallatin River on High Flat Road between Four Corners and Gallatin Gateway. Elmose said it was a really good year, and the annual NRA Rodeo in July had an attendance of 3,100 on the first night and 3,200 on the second night. “It’s about as full as we can handle it right now,” Elmose said. • Pistachio brittle: The holiday candy to give as a gift

    Jon Bennion, Montana Free Press|Dec 20, 2023

Pistachios always remind me of the holidays. So when I set out to create a yearly tradition of a simple seasonal treat, pistachios had to be in the mix. They remind me of this time of year because of my dad. He has always been a hard person to buy gifts for, whether it's Father's Day, Christmas or his birthday. We have bought him nearly every piece of Beatles memorabilia and every novelty nose item on the planet, since the family nose is famously prominent. At some point, we also figured out... Full story
